There's an online sag calculator for wood.  Is there a similar thing for metal?
Reply:I've wondered about that myself (also do woodworking, and I've used the sagulator for that) but never found one for steel. You might want to take a look at the book "Design of Welded Structures" by Omer Blodgett, printed by the Lincoln Welding Foundation. Don't remember whether it has "sagulator" type information but it's got a lot of good info. I bought a copy through Lincoln, and it's a pretty nice book for the price. (As is "Metals and How to Weld Them," also by the Lincoln Welding Foundation ...  a small book jam-packed with good info.)You might be able to find copies online for free or for a few bucks (used) at alibris.comGood luck. If you find a steel "sagulator" calculator online, pls let us know.Last edited by Kelvin; 3 Days Ago at 05:29 AM.
Reply:Have you tried to Google "metal beam deflection" or "metal deflection calculator"Here is one for the first search:https://www.omnicalculator.com/const...eam-deflectionHere is one for the second search:https://www.engineering.com/calculators/beams.htmI plugged in some generic values and once I added a force of 0.5 pounds or more, it showed deflection.Millermatic 252 MIGMiller Dynasty 200DX TIGMiller Spectrum 625 PlasmaAltas 12x36 Metal LatheBridgeport Milling Machinewww.psacustomcreations.com
Reply:I looked, but didn't find anything.  I'll try those.  Thanks.
Reply:Beam boy is another I've seen used by members on this site.
