Just generally was wondering about welding exhaust systems. For mig/tig welding do these fume extractors have issues dragging shielding gas away? Could I simply use a Home Depot shop vac to do the same thing as a $2000 fume extractor? Thoughts? I feel like Im asking dumb questions, but thats what the internet is for.
Reply:Keep looking. You can find real fume extractors for less than $2000. Depending on climate you may just extract it and pump it outside. You would need to create an appropriate filter system with a shop vac. Shop vacs are loud.
