Looking at a powermax 85 good condition....just wondering what a fair price would be...and are parts still available? Does it take same consumables as the powermax 65? Thanks Jim!
Reply:Even though its 90% Jim will show early in the mornin' they DO have a website and customer service dept ya know.Got the serial number ? Why the hell not ? Doncha think that might have something to do with parts availability/interchangeability ?Tech line. Have the numbers and stuff ready(800) 643-9878
Reply:Same exact consumables other then the 85 amp Nozzle.. Fair price out of warranty, probably a bit over $2000.00 Depending where you are located. I had a bitch of a time selling my mint 65 only 5/6 month old.. Really solid machine.. New you can buy for $3,160.00 so take that into consideration.. You will get guys telling you $2500.00 would be a good price, but better be mint, and in warranty..75 % of $3160 is $2370.. Remember you asked fair price, not some inflated list price that will be posted by some..All parts are available. Probably won't need any though..(Unless trashed)Last edited by Brand X; 06-14-2017 at 12:22 AM.Esab/Lorch ET-220iEsab 160i caddyThermal LM-200 Lincoln feedersThermal Pee-Wee 85sThermal 60i- 3phase /RPC powered (Beast)Thermal Drag-gun 35CINE 1500 Klutch 140i

Reply:go with cash and start at the bottom..as a buyer you want the best price and as a seller you want the most.go online and print out a few prices for them brand new to show the seller what a new one with warranty will cost you, also if you run the serial number through hypertherm they can tell you if it was ever in for service...for the right price used its worth it...

Reply:The factory suggested list price for a Powermax85 with a hand torch is $4,230. They will likely be in production for another 5 years or so....and all parts will be available for another 15 years or so. A used one in excellent condition is worth every bit of $3,000. It uses the same torch, same consumables as a Powermax65 and 105 system. You can upgrade it with a machine torch and CPC (machine interface) at any time. If it is less than 3 years old it will still be covered under warranty...get the original bill of sale and the warranty will start on the date listed, otherwise (no bill of sale) the warranty starts when it leaves the factory. You can download the operators manual and service manual from www.hypertherm.com. You can call tech service at Hypertherm with the serial number and they can look up the date sold as well as warranty history, if any.Jim Colt Hypertherm

Reply:$3000 is 95% of what you can buy one for brand new in in a box shipped to your door.. Some people live on Fantasy Island as what you can sell things for. Real world pricing is a totally different thing. I have sold, and bought many Plasma cutters, and live in that real world..Buyers know what they can buy machines for, and you are not likely to find one that fell off the turnip truck..

Reply:I thought you were not a salesman? Interesting how the truth slips out.. Probably need a Special Prosecutor to get to the bottom of this! You would sell zero at $3000.00 out here. Buyers are much more savvy, then you give them credit for.. Must have a lot of Turnip trucks out there in NH..

Reply:Actually (as of a couple months ago) I do work for the North American Sales team.....as the Light Industrial OEM Account manager, meaning I work with 30 different CNC manufacturers as a rep (more technical than sales)....so call me a salesman if you want. I do spent a bit of time keeping track of second hand plasma cutter transactions around the US and Canada, and I am up to speed regarding the market prices, so when someone asks me the value of any used plasma I will respond with what I hear from actual sales in the field. I am not a salesman from the perspective of a potential user of one of Hypertherm plasma systems. I cannot, (and never have) taken an order for a plasma cutter, rather, we let our distributors and OEM machine builder do so. I have been responsible for increasing peoples interest in plasma cutters for a few decades though! Jim

Reply:I think it's the machine torch prices that are ridicules even used! You don't get any lube on those just hurts. Luckily I spend thousands at my LWS and they hooked me up some on the price.ESAB Rebels 215 and 235, ESAB HELIARC 281i, ESAB ET 301i, Hypertherm 85 and 45XP, Thermal Arc 185, TD 60i, HTP PRO PULSE 300

Reply:Purchase prices on good welders and plasma cutters (like you would use to earn a living) are high. Long term operating costs are low....the longer you keep them the lower the cost is. That may be why the Powermax units are among the highest cost and at the same time sell in far higher numbers than any other brand. Cost of Ownership is the cost of the system at purchase, the cost of consumable usage, the cost and related downtime for repairs and maintenance as well as the cost of secondary operations (grinding, etc) on your cut parts. My Ram 2500 with the Cummins diesel cost more than the 1500 with a gas motor. Wonder which one will tow my wife's 37 foot 3 horse trailer (over 17,000 lbs) and will still be running after years of hard use? There is a difference between low cost tools that work in a hobby environment and those that can help us earn a living. I stand behind my suggestion for the typical used system prices. Of course if you can get them at a lower price...that is a bonus. And Brand X, if you ever need help selling a Powermax (or anything else for that matter) perhaps a session at Charm School should be in the works. Obviously you need some help in that category, just look at your posts! Jim |
