Sp175t problem

Hi all..My spirit acts like it has a bad contactor..   Pull the trigger , gas flows , wire feeds, arc starts..    Some times it works for 30 to 45 seconds..Sometimes 5 to 10 seconds..Then loud click....everything stops..Pull the trigger again...might start..might not.   I went thru the contacts in the gun..It does this with the gun un plugged and direct jumping the terminal..  So its not the gun..Loud click when you jump the terminal..loud click when it stops..     All the literature I can find , and the spare parts list do not show a contactor..It has to have something that is making that click..Maybe a large relay ?    Any help would be greatly appreciated..DaveSent from my SM-G973U using Tapatalk
Reply:The SP 175T is a 230 volt tap switch welder. should have a small pcb with a couple of relays on it and some other parts. The click should be the relay and the gas valve.Motor control circuit is also on the pcb. it is powered from the welder output. so no OCV and no wire drive. You might want to check the push button circuit breaker.Have see a few that work when cold, but open after a short time, but do not trip.Stop welding and it will close and work again.The relay on the pcb is the contactor and some times they stop working.You just need to place a voltmeter on the transformer primary and on across the circuit breaker and weld a little. When it stops, with the trigger still pulled see if the voltage on the breaker goes from 0 to 230 volts and if the transformer went from 230 to 0. If breaker voltage changes it is bad. if it doesn't and the transformer goes to 0 then the relay is bad. Also check the voltage tap switch and make sure it is not arcing and burnt.

Reply:CCAWGC...thank you very much !I bypassed the resettable breaker..The machine works perfectly now.I think the breaker got wet.       New breaker on order from local airgas.    Back to work for me..DaveSent from my SM-G973U using Tapatalk
