Reply:Anybody looking for good proven welding machines, these are fire sale prices. Don't wait or they will be gone.
Reply:Nice and good price, less than $1/lb.. I have one just like it from 1974, one of the earliest ones made with an HD serial number."USMCPOP" First-born son: KIA Iraq 1/26/05Syncrowave 250 w/ Coolmate 3Dialarc 250, Idealarc 250SP-175 +Firepower TIG 160S (gave the TA 161 STL to the son)Lincwelder AC180C (1952)Victor & Smith O/A torchesMiller spot welder
Reply:HD is 73. First year they used the letter date codes. J codes for the 80's start at JA for 1980. Funny Miller doesn't use I in date codes. Maybe so it doesn't get confused with a 1?
Reply:They are great machines for sure. I had one for several years then back to a Lincoln Idealarc250. Im just a Lincoln guy I guess, both machines are better than I am. Lol. I found this picture of mine. It was a 1980 Blackface. I had the custom tread plate hood made for it. Reply:That's likely just a later version of the manual and the machine hasn't changed from late 73 models.https://www.millerwelds.com/support/serial-number-chart

Light duty leads aren't very expensive and this set goes to 200 amps at 100% duty cycle. Which means you won't overheat them even at max with this machine.https://store.cyberweld.com/howecase...rce=googlebaseIf you want heavier/longer leads, I can include them, but they can get expensive depending what you want.

Reply:I sold a Dialarc 250HF to a fellow in Ohio?, if I remember. Mine included a TIG outfit along with cooler & 50' leads. It sticks in my mind it cost $190 to ship. Guy was here, called himself Tuscany. Maybe his memory is more accurate. An optimist is usually wrong, and when the unexpected happens is unprepared. Reply:I've researched a bit and read that this machine would require around 80 amp service to run well. Could I even run it off of my dryer outlet?
Reply:Not a dryer outlet but a 60 amp or maybe even a 50 amp would work if you're not at the top end.
Reply:Ive always ran my Dialarcs and Idealarc250s on 50 amp service and not had any issues Sent from my iPhone using TapatalkSteveMiller Dialarc 250 (1990)Miller Maxstar 140 STR (2003)Lincoln SA200 Redface Pipeliner (1966)Lincoln MP210 (2015)Victor and MECO torches

Reply:While we are discussing Miller Dialarcs. I have ran and owned Dialarcs and Lincoln Idealarc250 welders, it seems to me that the Miller has a less aggressive, smoother sounding and appearing arc. I have a Lincoln now and I prefer the arc characteristics it has slightly, both are wonderful machines and both will weld better than I can. Im wondering if this difference is due to the range switch on the Miller that changes the arc voltage at the same amperage setting. According to the manual its only 2 volts, 27 vs 29. I know my SA200 really allows this go up a gear and down on the volts and get a stiffer puddle. What do you guys think?Sent from my iPhone using TapatalkSteveMiller Dialarc 250 (1990)Miller Maxstar 140 STR (2003)Lincoln SA200 Redface Pipeliner (1966)Lincoln MP210 (2015)Victor and MECO torches
