Hobart WW2? need help!!

gents, I have aquired an old hobart that was considered jink and am trying to get it back to working condition.  I'm not sure the model but it is a 200amp 40V DC unit paired with an L-134 Jeep willys motor. I've tinkered with the motor enough to get it running but I dont know enough about how the welder works to know where to start in getting it going. currently with the engine running i have no output on the welder side and no output in the 110vDC outlet.. any help would be greatly appreciated. serial #5CW 24823 / specs # 1064C

Reply:make sure all the brushes move in the holders easily and dont break them and you might need to flash the exciter to get it welding, i got an old 6 cylinder machine and i flashed the exciter and it welded after that. i dont know how you would flash it on this model. look for Duaneb55 and he might know
Reply:very nice machine have welded with one last year   most likely what cub and farmer said brushes,, just seen on richmond va craigslist he had it for sale
Reply:i have an old 6 cylinder hobart from 1944 and when i first got it running it had no juice at all so i tried to flash it on 2 studs that put out DC power, i think they were low voltage like for charging batteries but i hooked them to a set of jumper cables and the other end to a car battery and held it for a few seconds then it produces power and welded. the weld current acted strange and would swirl around and that was because 1 brush was not moving free. so check all your brushes and try to find a place to flash the small part of the generator, that the exciter.
Reply:Be careful not to let the brush spring loaded arm slip out of your hand and knock the corner it rests on off the brush.
