I wanted to make something to make my life a bit easier and while a scale 6ft long would work for 90% of my lengths it would take up more room than I like. Anyone use a counter? They don't seem to cost much but I have no idea what all I might need or how they work.
Reply:Hmmm..... looks like the rest of us are just using the Magic Marker marks on the floor. Can't say that I've ever bought hose anywhere that they used a counter. Most places just lay it out on the floor beside my blown one and measure with a tape. I know, not the answer you were looking for...250 amp Miller DialArc AC/DC StickF-225 amp Forney AC Stick230 amp Sears AC StickLincoln 180C MIGVictor Medalist 350 O/ACut 50 PlasmaLes
Reply:Hardware stores used to have a thing that measured rope.  Put it between two wheels and pull it through, read length on counter.  May find one of them and modify it to work. Mike
Reply:I used to work in  bike shop and everyone used to count individual chain links. I never cared because it was something I never did. When I started having to do it I made a scale on the wall for various pitches that you could hang the chain on to do it.One thing I noticed is that if a guy at work is not given a desk he will lay on the floor to work instead of staking up some pallets to work on let alone going out to Ikea and buying a $20 desk.Working dumb is not my style.
Reply:We count links on ag chains because they stretch so badly with the larger sizes and longer lengths. It can really be surprising how much they stretch. If you are going to go by length, it should be laying down and shoved back to take the slack out of it, rather than hanging at the stretched length.250 amp Miller DialArc AC/DC StickF-225 amp Forney AC Stick230 amp Sears AC StickLincoln 180C MIGVictor Medalist 350 O/ACut 50 PlasmaLes
