I bought this welder a while ago,it was used when I bought it .it does power up but wont feed wire.is there a fuse in this welder or where do I start looking, thanks
Reply:Harbor Freight has a tech support line that also sells parts., Problem is they obsolete their machines quite fast. Go to their web site and look it up.Like most small welders you need to have weld voltage before wire will feed. They use the weld voltage as the power supply for the wire feed system. So the weld contactor must make contact. There also might be a fuse on the wire feed pcb. Will have to remove the cover and look. Bad gun liners can cause these fuses to blow.
Reply:Idano, should be able to run that wire spool clean out without ever striking an arc. There is no wire feed switch, how else would you feed a new spool?
Reply:Check to see if your rollers are physically turning. If they arent im willing to bet you have issues with the gun trigger. If they do spin, dial your spool tension down, and straighten your liner out to get it feeding again.

Reply:I believe all the HF units are "cold" until you pull the trigger. The older models may be different
Reply:the wire feed wheels wont even attempt to feed,i even put a jumper in it where the 2 wires go to the switch. that's why im hoping theres a fuse somewhere
Reply:I would try to push some wire through the gun, then with some sticking out past the tip, pull the trigger and see if you even get weld current through your set up. If you dont you may have a problem with the torch switch, or the wiring in the cable.
Reply:the only thing is when I bypassed the switch by using the jumper nothing happened, thats why I was hoping there would be a fuse im not seeing

Reply:no mine is model 03664,probably an older one

Reply:that's the welder but not much info on troubleshooting, thanks anyway
Reply:Thats why i suggested pushing the wire through the machine by hand then trying to strike an arc with tge wire fed through it. It will tell you if there is just an issue with your feeder motor, or if the whole machine is at fault.
Reply:No fuse in the motor circuit.I see a variable resistor to control motor speed. All you can do is check for voltage at the motor terminals.

Reply:It show how a electronic can kill a good welder. Great for retailers and manufacturers sell more welders. Also how a old thread can come to life. Dave
