I'm starting to work more and more in -10* warehouses. What do you cold state people wear. In 20* weather I wear just a carhartt sweatshirt, but I'm looking for good stuff for me and my guys. Price is a requirement, but its lower on the list of needs.Any good suggestions are greatly appreciated.Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk

Reply:Carhardt Arctic. Coveralls bought big, lots of synthetic layers beneath. I have a puffy LLBean parka that fills space inside the coveralls. I have a mad bomber hat for cold days. Super cold days I have a silly looking pair of massive boots that keep me warm, but make my knees hurt. Gloves are the problem. I keep my core warm, and seek gloves I can function in. Ove glove is my choice. It stretches to fit, giving me dexterity. An optimist is usually wrong, and when the unexpected happens is unprepared. A pessimist is usually right, when wrong, is delighted, and well prepared.

Reply:It really depends on what type of work is being done in 20* weather? Normal day to day in 20* wool socks, 600gram thinsalate boots, lightweight long undies top and bottom, firehose flex pants, Carhart blanket lined bibs, t-shirt, firehose flex shirt, fleece hoodie, and a fleece jacket. Most often layers will be stripped and unzipped as the blood gets flowing but I am a tree guy so work varies quite a bit from climbing, bucket work, or sitting on a machine. If you are just sitting the more layers the better.
Reply:I assume you mean  -10 Fahrenheit ?   If there is no breeze and you keep moving it won't be a problem with your core, but extremities will be hard to keep consistently comfortable. If you transition from moving lots to not moving much, then it gets difficult.   I like stuff that goes on and off easily, so use full coveralls or bibs with the shiny lining.  No wool, flannel or fleece lining.  Those materials I use for base layers and the bibs will slide over them easily.   If you need to constantly adjust layers, bibs work better than full overalls.   I spent many hours this winter sitting on a tractor at -30 F.    Only had issues with nose, fingers, toes and those can be dealt with using toe heaters, hand warmers, and Vaseline on the face.  Moleskin on the face in severe wind chill can also be used.I have both Carhartt and cheap knock offs.  They both seem to wear out about the same, but the cheap stuff seems to suffer from broken zippers, buttons and snaps.Last edited by bead-boy; 03-22-2019 at 01:29 PM.Century buzzbox that I learned on 40+ years ago (was Dad's)Crappy Century 110volt mig 70 amp pigeon pooper.Lincoln Idealarc TIG-300
