Hi I have an Esab PCM875 That I bought new a long time ago. It still works well but I realize technology has moved on and there are better things out there. The consumables are pretty pricey and dont last a long time.I would love a new hypertherm but its going to be a while till that happens. I had heard there are other torches that can be used (duramax and radnor) and I was hoping someone had done the swap and could report the results. Are they better? Are the consumables cheaper?Lincolin Power Wave 450, Lincoln Powermig 255, Lincoln Pro Mig 140, Lincoln Squarewave Tig 275, Miller Big 40 G(with Hobart Hefty suitcase), Thermal Arc 95S and Esab PCM875 in an already full machine shop.

Reply:Just a short rant here... I'm sick and tired of hearing that these torches aren't repairable or obsolete 4 years after you buy a machine. The manufacturers would have a much better chance of selling stuff if they would actually support their product. I've had 2 Duramax 85 torches burn an insulator right at the plasma head and was told "no parts available, buy a new $400 torch assembly". I was in a pinch so I did. It really makes me mad that you can't fix your own stuff at a reasonable price. And to add insult, I was told that my torch burned from water in the air... I have triple filters for moisture. |
