I have had this issue with tip popping back bad since I bought it. I never use this tip because of it. But I find that that steel rod needs a lot of heat to flow wetting both surfaces . So I’m trying ing the bigger tip with I have the oxygen set at 10 flowing I have the acetylene set at 7 flowing The tip flame is bushing with three feathers ,I can’t seem to adjust that out , I don’t know what I’m doing wrong.
Reply:Get your acetylene up close to 15#, your running way too lean on fuel.
Reply:If it's a rosebud you need close to 15 psi on acetylene and 30+ oxygen. The higher pressures also help cool the tip. Backfiring is most often from too low of pressure, especially acetylene but if the tip gets too hot will also cause it. Clean the tip good also but no more than twice in and out with a tip cleaner. Don't throttle the flame back either, you don't want any black with the bare acetylene flame. With a heating tip, the acetylene can jump from the end of the tip. For a welding tip, jumping from the end indicates the maximum flow the tip is designed for.Other thing that is real important: Make sure you have a large enough acetylene cylinder or 2 manifolded together so you don't draw the acetone out. Could make for a big explosion if you don't.Last edited by Welder Dave; 07-11-2021 at 12:19 AM.
