This is at my bank. It is about one mile from my shop.  These doors are down often.  So I have inquired about repairing them on multiple occasions.  However it is low bid and I don't think I could bid low enough.Repair is about 3 weeks old

Reply:That is HORRENDOUS. I Have some juicy fruit that will stick better then how that looks.
Reply:Because the bank got exactly the quality of workmanship they were prepared to pay for.---Meltedmetal
Reply:I don't think it is a money issue...The repair person bid to do the job...complete the job.  Not even like it was an overwelming volume of work. They just were not skilled.
Reply:Whoever did that should be shot! Both from welding and mechanical standpoint.I won't comment on the welds. But using a LOCK WASHER as a spacer/bearing?!?!?! I mean WTF?-------------Go ahead and bid the job. What's the worst that happen? They'll say "No". Maybe, just maybe they'll let you do the work properly and pay you the quoted price. Think of what a clear conscience you'll have if that happened!Last edited by mike837go; 04-20-2017 at 02:21 PM.Be wary of The Numbers: Figures don't lie,. but liars can figure.Welders:2008 Lincoln 140 GMAW&FCAW2012 HF 165 'toy' GTAW&SMAW1970's Cobbled together O/A

Reply:Looks like an after hours withdrawal at that bank wouldn't be to hard to arrange if that is the standard of the work there!

Reply:I bet the welder (used very loosely) has posted here on using a 110 volt Mig. And repairs trailers and exhaust systems.
Reply:I think I have solved the conundrum.Obviously the boofhead painter must have knocked all the joint holding slag off the weld before applying the paint! She would have looked great before he did that!
Reply:No bank left behind.

It's good enough for the bank. The issue I have is the gentleman/company who did this repair. Welding is not a skill they possess. They should get into something else. The bank should have used the services of a local known machine/welding shop.Neither side of the hinge is fused to the frame at all.Last edited by snoeproe; 04-21-2017 at 06:34 PM.JasonLincoln Idealarc 250 stick/tigThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 52Miller Bobcat 250Torchmate CNC tableThermal Arc Hefty 2Ironworkers Local 720

Same hinge from original post 4 years ago.  Took the photo today.  Coincidentally i happen to see the guy doing this repair about 4yrs ago after i started this thread.  I guess it takes more than a nice truck, cargo trailer and some horses to make dependable welds.Really sad.  There is no weld penetration on the post? It is like 14g thick.  I presume the DIY hinges seized and exposed the weak layer of filler.I will attempt to get the job again?  At this point, I think it worth the $ of the 3 previous repairs plus mine price?

I’d go out and look to see why they’d have a semi load of all rejects but they’d alway be right there.    Plenty of weld spatter all over the inside of the glass, chunks of slag, discarded pieces of burnt stick , trash and even some frozen rods sticking up where they left it.    Quality #1 right and I saw this whenever I decided to check a truckload. These truck loads came through at least every couple days for years

.    I guess the price was right.   Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Reply:That good news for good welders. I like repair as the owner has already paid good money but. The owner wants a good job done and willing to pay.I only quote all my work and they happy 😊 with a good job.Dave
