Well, maybe more of a water lily?I am working on a new project which involves some copper welding, a whole new experiment for me. A few years ago I made what I call a lotus bird bath out of copper and was pretty happy with how it came out. At that time the best I could do was solder so I soldered the entire thing together. This worked fine but left the solder joints visible after assembly.

I am working on v.2 of this and am attempting to TIG instead of solder. After some practice I got the edge welds looking ok but boy does that puddle want to run right through the metal once it gets going! I have a pile of scrap to prove it.

I got as far as welding the first course of leaf halves together and roughing the profile. I am hoping to make at least one with a fountain pump to sell and another with a propane burner in the center for me. I mocked up a burner out of stainless with a copper wool packing for gas diffusion and it seems to work well. I should have made the inlet go into the bottom instead of the side but I will do that and probably shorten the overall height as well in the final build.

Hopefully this is interesting to at least a couple people and I will keep this post updated with progress.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Reply:It's not cheap, but go on mcmaster carr website and do a search for perforated sheet. Mcmaster is usually pretty high on this catagory, but you can buy a small piece and exactly what you want. Where other may want you to buy a 4' x 4' sheetSent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk

Reply:Some minor progress over the last couple days. Got the bottom course of petals profiled and opened. They came out pretty similar with minor variations. This is, of course, to model nature not because I couldnt make 6 identical parts

The next course of petals will be slightly smaller and with more spinal curve. I also think I will make a third, center layer of petals incorporated into a burner cover but will see how that goes. For reference; this is what the copper from the original looks like after aging for a couple years.

I really like how it sits on this old iron wheel (pulley?).

Reply:Have been working on this project off and on over the last couple weeks. I have the flower mocked up, which is to say its complete but I am not satisfied with the weld job I have attaching the petals to the base. Both are flashing gauge copper sheet and I am blowing holes all over the place. I think a big problem with my setup is it requires 4 hands and Im a couple short of that. But if anyone has any tips, I would appreciate any input. Im not sure if there is another way to share a video here, but linked is a video showing the flower and flame and cover. I will try to get some good still shots to share as well.https://www.instagram.com/p/CQpbPGFn...dium=copy_link
