I sure could use some input from anyone who heats there shop with a Master brand or any other Kerosene / Diesel heaters. I am looking at 140,000 BTU at Tractor Supply. The shop is 24x24.  Pict of the shop, this is the area I need to heat.

Reply:Nice shop. Mine is 30’x40’. I’m in north Georgia so cooler than Florida. I tried kerosene and 220v electric but now I use propane with a wall heater. It has a fan to help circulate. Seems cheaper and warmer than electric and since I have a large propane tank I don’t have to store and refill kerosene. I use the tank for grill and gas logs in the house. The gas company tops off my tank twice a year. Costs about $65-70 each time. I do not need heat every day but it works well. It is ventless so a little odor but not as bad as kerosene. Just a suggestion. You may get tired of hauling and handling the kerosene.Burt _____________________Miller Syncrowave 250Millermatic 211Miller 375 Plasma Cutter Hobart Handler 12010FtDrillBit.com
Reply:I would insulated the building or you will spend a lot on fuel. It is only a 576 square foot building it should only at most 60,000 but heater or less..If do insulate use a infrared type heating for spot location.https://www.harborfreight.com/15000-btu-tank-top-propane-heater-63073.htmlIf gets very cold use two this type will outside too. This is type used for 20 years and each heater would use about one tank (4gal) a week.Dave

Reply:Seeing you are in FL. you may get away with just a Hotdawg propane job.... they do pretty good. I'm in the north east...   I installed a 100K btu house furnace (hot air) in my 22 x 24   2 level garage. I am satisfied.Miller 211Hypertherm PM 451961 Lincoln Idealarc 250HTP 221  True Wisdom only comes from Pain.
Reply:I have used a propane HotDawg heater for years. Works great.
Reply:My 500 sqft shop is 2"x4" walls, insulated with pink fibreglass, with ply interior walls and 3/4" ship-lap overlaid with steel on the outside. I have 14" of cellulose insulation blown into the attic. I was using a 50,000btu Mr Heater ceiling mounted propane heater with 2x420lb tanks sitting outside for the last ten years. This year I installed a 7500W 240v heater and a small circulating fan as the lead heater in place of the propane. The propane is still there with 2x100lb tanks as backup to the electric heater but it has yet to run.  So far I see no difference in either cost or comfort and the electric heater is doing all the work.I am at 48.5' north.
Reply:I use a radiant deisel heater one of those big round ones works great no fumes no smoke bring something in that is all frosty or snowed on roll it over there and it is all melted off in a hurry
Reply:That heater will heat that area pretty quick. If you are just looking for occasional use it will suit your needs. If you are looking to maintain a constant temp you’d be better served with something elseMillermatic 252millermatic 175miller 300 Thunderboltlincoln ranger 250smith torcheslots of bfh'sIf it dont fit get a bigger hammer
Reply:Yes.. it would just be for the time I am in there working. Thanks.Miller 252  Lincoln Square Wave Tig 200MM 211Red face AC/DC 225 Buzz BoxPower Max 30
Reply:We have a wee little vornado fan/heater combo that my wife uses at work, her office is about 8 degrees colder than the rest of the building.  Anyway we have used that in the garage this winter just about a 20 minute preheat and you can play Mario Cart on the projector in your shorts.  Well as long as your feet are not bare on the concrete.  Just a thought, quick cheap heat, one time purchase without reoccuring costs.I haven't built anything I can't throw away.  Perfection is the journey.    Mac
Reply:If you need a *lot* of heat do what the amazon guys do for the warehouses they work in... get a couple of these 800.000 btu's or they make even bigger ones if you need it

This one is supposed to run over 40 hours on only 300 gallons of diesel.BTW: these are the indirect fired versions so they are safe to use indoors(ducting) without killing yourself

the regular direct fired burners NEED a well ventilated area to heat!!! at least if you want to breathe in that area

Reply:When my brother replaced his old electric house furnace, I used it to replace the woodstove in my shop(36x60). What a difference. It can be below freezing outside and I can come in, turn it on, and in 20 min. it is 50 degrees. My shop is well insulated, so it only costs about $1.50 a day to keep it comfortable while I am working out there.Might look on Craigslist, I often see old furnaces for free there.
Reply:I don't know if you have an AC unit in the shop, but if not I would highly recommend getting a mini-split with the heat pump option.  I use a 30K BTU unit (Mitsubishi Mr. Slim) to heat and cool the 24 x 40 side of my shop.  I only cool the shop to the mid-70s in the summer and only heat it to around 60 in the winter to keep the electric bill reasonable...it's surprisingly cheap to run.  The only downside is most units with the heat pump will only work down into the mid teens, but that shouldn't bother you in Florida!  Even if you don't run one 24/7 they would heat/cool that space very quickly and no carbon monoxide issues, or fuel to deal with.Check out my bench vise website:  http://mivise.comMiller Syncrowave 250DXMillermatic 350P with XR AlumaProMiller Regency 200 with 22A feeder and Spoolmatic 3Hobart Champion EliteEverlast PowerTig 210EXT
