I grabbed this turntable and three sections of track from a sandblast shop this morning. The turntable is 1/4” x 30” diameter with 1/2” holes for bolting fixtures.  Sealed bearings on turntable and the four rollers. It has a rated capacity of 750 pounds and weighs 90 pounds. The turntable unit itself sits flat on the floor or welding table (rollers do not engage the flat surface) and as such can be used for rotation only without the benefit of linear travel. Lots of options available to me.  I think I will make a dedicated bench for it that will allow me to clip on track extensions.  This still allows me to grab the turntable and use elsewhere at variable heights with a forklift or high lift pallet jack.

Too cool or what??!!Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Reply:Pretty cool.  It could actually go under /hold a small table too.  Are those rods for the extensions?  How do the line up?

Reply:Pretty neat. You could sit a chair on it, sit yerself down in that chair, and have someone spin it till ya throw up

  Kinda like astronaut training

Reply:Very cool!!!!!  Man I can think of several projects I did where that would have saved a lot of time and me jumping back and forth...
Reply:Ah man, that is slick. For a temp stop, use a C clamp, beam clamp, drill hole for bolt and nut. You know what to do, just being smart a$$.That could really be handy. I'm glad I didn't find it.

That's slick using angle iron for track too. I'll settle for my overhead beam with electric chainfall . Probably one of my best investments, especially now that I'm getting old. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Reply:Putting eight feet of track on my bench and motorizing the turntable  was what first came to mind.......

Reply:I spent a little time working on a bench for the turntable today.

The main frame on the left will be moved with the pallet jack.  The 3 foot tracked extension on the right will be detachable and have a (lift off) flat work surface adjacent to the rolling turntable. The 30 x36 inch lift off flat surface may have to be thick MDF or aluminum as a steel top may be too heavy.  Haven’t figured that out yet....

Reply:I’m getting closer.  Still need to make a removable tabletop.

Reply:A track like that would work great for loading wood in a shipping container kiln for drying wood.
Reply:That is an awesome find.  Great idea for quick track alignment too.  I can't think of any specific ways it would have saved me time or hassle over just a rotary table but I definitely want 3, maybe 4 lol.I like that industrial look of the holes punched in the channel/ibeam.  Little touches like that can make something as utilitarian as a workbench look really nice.  Your shop is always enviable and clean lis2323.
Reply:I was unable to find an aluminum sheet crop cheap enough so I used a piece of 1.25 inch plywood from a Starbucks coffee table and sheared up a piece of 18 gauge galvanized I had. Not my first choice but I think it will be fine for now.

Reply:Thank you, jeverich.   Stainless, btw.

and welded on 1/2 inch bolts to match the holes on the rotating table.

Reply:No... No... you're doing it wrong!!!!!  You're supposed to have a scantily clad babe sitting on it.... not one of PSA's art pieces...

Reply:PSA gets the babes trolling the art galleries. I get drops behind the shear.

:
Reply:Well, at least your drops have some curves....  it's something anyways

Reply:That came out nice.  Being able to work on any side, without moving the piece, or yerself……….golden.
Reply:Awesome work as always. So is the idea to use it as a manual rotator for welding? and the linear track in a smilar fashion?
Reply:Really nice work Terry. Is is just a sculpture or functional art? Make sure you post more pics when it is complete. Assuming it not.Millermatic 252 MIGMiller Dynasty 200DX TIGMiller Spectrum 625 PlasmaAltas 12x36 Metal LatheBridgeport Milling Machinewww.psacustomcreations.com
Reply:Thanks Sam and Munkul !  Yes,  a rotating positioner of sorts is the plan but I’m certain other uses for it will come up in the future. Pat I was inspired by Bob , Steve , Vaughn, you and others and decided to roll up a couple of 10 gauge strips. To be able to pass for a sculpture would make me happy.   I will see how it goes....

Reply:Looks like it would be, relatively, easy to add a small motor drive to provide rotation.  Have you considered adding a small 12 VDC motor with speed control?  A friction drive roller should do the trick, nicely.Last edited by Weldordie; 12-31-2019 at 12:24 AM.

Reply:I have a small motor that was for an ice crusher in a refrigerator.  It turns slow and has a lot of torque.  It would be great for this. In regards to egaging and disengaging to free wheel. Think of a fitting for a hydraulic pump. That three tooth thing could be screwed to the bottom if the turntable shaft.   The motor could be on an arm that lifts up to engage and drops down a few inches to disconnect Sent from my SM-G930V using TapatalkMillermatic 252 MIGMiller Dynasty 200DX TIGMiller Spectrum 625 PlasmaAltas 12x36 Metal LatheBridgeport Milling Machinewww.psacustomcreations.com
Reply:Thanks for the good idea, Pat!    I never use the ice crusher on my fridge so I already have the motor!:
Reply:The table didn't get much use so it was off to a new home today.!
