Was trying to clean out junk today and came across this single page from a catalog. This is where I bought my first welder. The page is from the Spiegel catalog. Probably around 1972. Did a ton of welding with this, some pretty heavy and never had an issue with duty cycle.

Reply:I started out with the identical setup.  Both the welder, and a small cutting outfit.  Kept the welder for years, sold the small bottles on the cutting rig to the LWS to offset the cost of my first set of large owner bottles.  the other day I was a bit regretful for selling the little bottles, when I had to do a 2 minute cutting deal out in the field.
Reply:The AC225 was more expensive the first few years when it was introduced (July 1961 ad).

Reply:I’m sure the number of AC225 machines made would amaze us.  They are literally everywhere.  While the lack of DC output and tapped selector not continuous adjustment are drawbacks to this machine. Who could say they aren’t successfully used by homeowners and farm owners the world over for many years. Most guys started with one of these and never wanted or needed another welder. Reply:It is Lincolns most popular model. I did some quick calculations and figured Lincoln built about 2 million SA200's in the US and also built a lot of them in Canada. I would guess the AC225 sold considerably more than that. Other than the tapped settings an AC225 will run standard 7018 where as a Miller Thunderbolt is terrible keeping an arc with 7018.

Reply:My first job out of the military, the boss had one.  I used it for all his repairs and built a roll-back wrecker with it for him.For students, it is much easier for them to keep track of amperage settings for different rods. It's more natural for them to just click up one or down one as needed. Students using the digital machines are less likely to remember which setting they need. Of course, after they can run nice beads they can recognize how much better the inverter arc is though
