I have an old PowerMax 900 that stopped working. Spent about 2 days going back and forth with Hypertherm's service engineer and after testing and inspecting everything we determined that the inverter is going straight to a short which means my problem lies in 1 of 3 places, the control board driving the IGBT, the cap bank board on the side or a shorted IGBT. The machine is from 1999 and Hypertherm no longer has the parts available.Other than EIC repair, is there any other recommended places that do repair work on these parts? I am pretty confident the issue is the control board, although there is nothing obviously damaged (no burnt marks or anything)Thanks.
Reply:Look for a short using your meter is ohm test. The IGBT can be checked in diode test. Each IGBT in the power module has a diode in parallel with it. You should be able to read the diode. If the IGBT is bad it will read a short. Have worked on a lot of 900s, Most have a worn out pilot contactor, bad torch or blown fuse on the pcb. The older pcbs have fuses in the trigger and sensor circuits. the newer pcbs went to a ptc device or something like it. Or a bad line switch / breaker. what makes you think it has a short? |
