ProTig 205 Coupon Out...

As part of the Harbor Freight SEMA coupon pack, HF has published a coupon for the ProTig 205 ($899; regularly $999) that is valid until 11/24/19, although the welder is not currently shown on their website as my posting this. I see this as a sign they want to get the unit in stores/on sale before Black Friday to take advantage of the Holiday/Christmas shopping season and not wait until early 2020.

Reply:Nice, I've been waiting with anticipation for the 205 to come out.  Hopefully they didn't cheapen it up all to hell in the lawsuit design change.

All of the peripherals are the same including the foot control.  All needed is your bottle of gas. Apparantly the 205 means it puts out 5 more amps than the old one. These are all new internals.

Reply:Seems HF is really stepping up on all thier products. This new welder line has probably taken a big market chunk away from other brands including the big boys. I assume even the plasmas will steal some thunder being everything is priced decent and it backed by a storefront. Reply:hf has issued coupons before product was available in the past.they did it for the vulcan series and are also doing it for the icon brand.i think previous post clarifies it pretty well.

Reply:just picked up the 205 they are honoring the sema coupon.  i had the 200 for over two years and not a problem so dont anticipate any from this one either. ill update any issues after i use it for few weeks.Could you post up the specs from the owner's manual? The manual isn't downloadable yet. I am dying to see the duty cycles, pre and post flow times, the pulse ranges, etc.  Thanks.Miller Multimatic 255

Reply:Funny, I called a HF store in Wa last week and they could not find the 205 in any store or in the warehouse.
Reply:i kept calling every week or so and got lucky few days ago they told me it was on the truck they were getting ready to unload. it was suppose to be there display but said if i got there before they started to set up display i could buy it. i will post pics and manual later today after i get it set up.

Reply:i think they were doing coupons for presale. im going to call in next few days and ask about warranty . i bought 2 year extended with this one just likr i did when i bought the 200 . still got another 6 months on the 200 cause of the additional 1 year it came with. i will do review in couple of weeks after ive used it on a railing and nursing home job i have coming up. couple thousand feet of railing and 50 or so grab bars should let me know how it works.

Reply:I decided to go ahead and order one online last week, shipped Friday, its going to be here tomorrow, Ill let yall know how it compares to other tig welders Ive used before, although, that is only a Miller Shopmate 300 at school, and a Lincoln aspect 375 at school. By the way, it only costed my 6.99 to ship it from Dillon, sc to georgia.
Reply:I ran it today, ac felt great, the ac noise is louder than the Lincoln aspect at school though. Fan is on demand only. My regulator came leaking out of one of the connections. One big thing I noticed is it does not have a lift arc function. Another thing I noticed is he foot pedal feels like it has steps in it, not truly linear. Dc felt great too, welded fine, nothing massive jumped out at me. Ill update tomorrow, I'm building a welding table with it tomorrow, get a few hours on it and Ill let yall know how it goes.

Reply:That sucks for me, I paid full price for mine. I really like it, and the adjustments have quite a large range. I havent really took it past 130 amps yet, but it feels pretty dang good. Once I get the cart finished, I will make a review on the welder. If you have any questions let me know.
Reply:And just to update today, I was running it and hf start died. Don't know if there could be some magic setting I don't know about though. Lift arc still works with the foot pedal though.
