I'm building a tig cooler and Curiuos how many cubic feet and gallons it will be thanks
Reply:I meant to say 12.750 inches thanks. I haven't welded up or anything yet. It will be 1/8 AL
Reply:2.980 gal.     0.398 cfTo ride, shoot straight, and speak the truth. This was the ancient law of youth. Old times are past, old days are done, but the law runs true oh little son.Winpower 180 DCSA-200 redfaceXMT-304
Reply:A cubic foot is 1728 cubic inches. ( 12 X 12 X 12 ). There's 231 cubic inches in a gallon, or roughly 7.5 gallons to the cubic foot. You have about 688 cubic inches if your measurements are inside measurements, so not quite 3 gallons.See and you thought the basic math they taught you in school was useless....No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:Ok thanks!does that sound plenty big enough for a 225 amp welder? I'm usually at 180 or less. I plan on putting a little 6x6 or 4x4 tranns cooler and a small fan
Reply:My Coolmate 3 holds 3 gallons and is rated to 600 amps.GravelThe difference between theory and practice is that in theory there is no difference.
Reply:The coolmate 1 that I have holds 1 gallon and I use it with a 200amp Miller dynasty.  3 gallons should be more than enough.Benson's Mobile Welding - Dayton, OH metro area - AWS Certified Welding Inspector
Reply:Ok thanks. I will be good with this setup even if I upgrade to a bigger welder then.
Reply:I wouldn't worry about volume as much as square feet of surface and fan flow in your radiator. The Coolmate one is specified by Miller for the Dynasty 280. I used water flowing from the sink before my cooler arrived. About an hour of welding I would flow about five gallons. 40 degree water would be warmed to 110 degrees. Unless you are production welding, it need not be of high capacity.Last edited by Willie B; 02-13-2015 at 10:01 PM.An optimist is usually wrong, and when the unexpected happens is unprepared. Reply:You must of only been welding about 5 minutes out of that hour. I think most coolers go through 1 gallon of water a minute. What do you mean square feet of surface? You mean have 3 gallons but a skinny long tank so it dissipates through the AL better?
Reply:More surface area to dissipate heat from, either in the welding tank or some sort of heat exchanger or radiator, a fan makes everything more efficient but passive cooling works too.
Reply:Can I get some help on this little math problem?its the inside dimensions on my smoker. I'm coming up with about 35 gallons. It's 18" deep - 31.75" wide - 24" high roof in front and 21 3/8" in the back roof. Thanks a lot. Planing on running a 3.5" exuast and would like to no how many gallons I have. Tried loading a pic but I've been having a hard time doing that

Reply:More than 35 gallonsMultiply the length, width and depth measurements in order to find the cubic volume.Divide the cubic volume in inches by 231, as a gallon is equal to 231 cubic inches.52.9 gallons just for the squared up measurements- not counting the sloped top.Ed Conleyhttp://www.screamingbroccoli.com/MM252MM211 (Sold)Passport Plus & Spool gunLincoln SP135 Plus- (Gone to a good home)Klutch 120v Plasma cutterSO 2020 benderBeer in the fridge
Reply:so looks like under 53. Thanks a lot. I could probably be safe at calling it 50 gallons

Reply:Old thread, but I just saw it. Any cooler has a radiator of some sort able to transfer heat from coolant to air.An optimist is usually wrong, and when the unexpected happens is unprepared. A pessimist is usually right, when wrong, is delighted, and well prepared.

Reply:You  could do that with ice for sure. I just need to put a fan on mine is all for big stuff

i do this every now and then to check the flow

Reply:Antifreeze. That's what my buddy has used for 25 years in his Bernard coolerPeople can argue for days about that. I was considering suggesting a refill with cold water if it overheats. I guess that won't help.WillieAn optimist is usually wrong, and when the unexpected happens is unprepared. A pessimist is usually right, when wrong, is delighted, and well prepared.
Reply:I can put fan on it like I already said about 3 times also willie. Welder over heats before cooler does. If it was on a sycrowave 250 or something I would have a fan on it. My welder has 230 a but not greatest duty cycle
