Is one specific brand of plasma torch, say Hypertherm, better with consumables life span vs. another brand? A fab shop I work at part time has a smaller torch, not sure of the brand, that they used for a few days, and evidently went through a fair number of parts and stopped using it because of the expense. Just wondered if that is normal.
Reply:any moisture in the air pretty much kills any life in plasma parts, i think i recall seeing esab parts are pretty good. But i'm not sure on it.StangnetShop Full Of Stuff. Joey
Reply:ttyR2Nope,doesn't sound normal. I've been using CS CutSkill consumables on my plasma cutter and they seem to hold up for a very reasonable amount of time. I'll be the first to admit that I can be a little on the lazy side at times. In other words I haven't gotten around to installing any type of water separator on my compressor. When I have a problem with water I just drain the tank. Water will definitely shorten the life of your consumables. Another factor in the early death of your consumables is unskilled operators. Other than that plasma cutting can be a very fast, accurate and cost effective way of cutting material. When I finally get around to upgrading my compressor I will definitely build myself a "Franzenator" water separator.
