I am welding stainless (304ss) to carbon steel (ex. exhaust pipe on my truck), which electrode would you recommend? I would prefer to MIG it but the machine I have access to is not close enough. So, I am going to arc weld it using 3/32 electrode and keep the amps down a little more than you normally would with stainless. Just want an electrode recommendation. Thank you.You may not be able to do it all, but TRY ANYWAY!!
Reply:For joining stainless to carbon steel use 312 or 309. If you use any other stainless rods cracks will develop later in time.
Reply:use 309 Lrods and weld it downhill, this will help with burn thru.
