i'm building a replacement deck for my mower out of 3/16 sheet and was curious  if the baffles under the deck should be made out of the same or s/s?   do you really need them at all? they fell out probably 6 months ago and haven't seen a whole lot of difference in discharge and clumps!any ideas?   i don't have a spunky username just what it is, me!
Reply:I think those are to keep the grass in for mulching then channel it towards the chute. I think that whole mulch thing is a myth anyway and I've never seen a bagger really work well except under laboratory conditions. If the grass is between 2 1/2 and 4 1/2 inches high, humidity is less than 14% and you mow from north to south with an easterly wind, then everything works.  The baffles probably added rigidity more than anything.
Reply:thanks SANDY!  any and all your info is always welcome.     i don't have a spunky username just what it is, me!
Reply:plain steel is fine, make the new baffles, airflow is really important under the deck.StangnetShop Full Of Stuff. Joey
Reply:viper does it matter if the deck is side or rear discharge as far as baffle placement. do the baffles help with vacuum or just for cleaning of the deck?  just curious! thanks for the input   i don't have a spunky username just what it is, me!
Reply:more or less they are for "kicking" the grass back down for re-mulching, how big is the deck?StangnetShop Full Of Stuff. Joey
