Okay I'm using a WELD-PAK 100 with .035 flux-cored but because I'm going to be doing butt welds with auto sheet metal I want to go to .025 and gas-shielded solid wire. Should I notice a considerable difference in the smoothness of my wleds, right now I'm under the vehcile doing welds and don't mind grindind down those welds and I'm not to concerned with the cosmetics of it. But on the inside of the cab and other areas I want to generated some smother butt welds. Can anyone give advice on this?
Reply:My advice would be to use .025 wire and shielding gas with that welder and practice with it on sheet.  You should be surprised at the difference in the quality of your welds.  Just don't forget to change from DCEN to DCEP.
Reply:I think you will not want to go back to flux cored wire ever again. you will notice! I pefer to use a mixture of 98% argon 2% oxygen as opposed to 75%argon 25% co2. you will get a cleaner weld and less splatter that will be an asset on sheetmetal also without the Co2 your weld areas will be less subject to corrosion.Last edited by Robby T.; 07-26-2005 at 06:24 PM.
Reply:Hey guys, If I bought my own gas tank what do you think it would run?
Reply:Wild guess given this is Kalifornia an you're in a less restrictive state (hopefully). An 80 CF (95)  might be around $125 filled plus or minus. 80 is about as small as you'd wanna go. Bigger if you think you're going to get into it more.
