I need to know how to run esab coreshield 8. I have the worst time with this wire. If anyone has any help to offer, it would be most appreciated. I have tried everything I know how to do and I still cant get good welds. This aint my first rodeo but this wire makes me crazy!
Reply:Anyone?
Reply:the first thing that I thought of was that you did not reverse the polarity of the welder but when I checked into your profile and saw that you are a weldor by trade I figured that you had already done that unless it is an over site on your part. For those who are new to welding : using core shield wire requires that the positive be the ground .Good luck:J.W.
Reply::J.W., thanks for your response but yes I tried that. Tried volts up and down, wire speed up and down, switched polarity back and forth, nothin worked right. Not sure if its the wire, the LN-25, or just operator malfuntion. I tried two different rolls to see if it was a bad roll,no change. Tried NR-211 and the suitcase worked fine. Dont know what to think. The only thing that worked was throw the damned thing and get the lo-hi to burning. The wire was jumping around like I had polarity wrong. You know how it just kinda balls up and spatters with no penetration. It looked like it was just sitting on top of the joint so I ground off my tack and sho nuff slag was under there. .Ilove 7018------

Reply:I am not familiar with the wire so here is my guess. Play with your stickout. I ran with large 1/16th self shielding wire wire that needed 1.5 to 2 inches stickout. That is not a typo :') Any closer and the bead turned to swiss cheese. It had something to do with the wire preheating between the contact tip and the arc.
Reply:lotechman, thanks for the return. I also ran into that same thing many years ago with another wire(nr-311 mp-.068). It needed at least 1.5 inch stickout or it looked like crap.I had not thought about that cuz I was in a hurry and too ready to give up.I will try that. Thanks vipermanz, good thought but no, it's not a dual shield wire. thanks tho----Last edited by TEK; 08-27-2005 at 06:34 PM.Reason: forgot something
Reply:Interesting. Ya look it up on esab and everything about it says common, ordinary bla bla wire. Even the stick out. http://www.esabna.com/webcatalog/sho...GID=122&CID=26
Reply:Thanks, Sandy, for the link. I'll look at it manana and maybe get something. |
