I just purchased a ditch blade, Sharp tool on a 40" HICKORY HANDLE ( UNFINISHED).What is the easiest way to coat and protect a tool handle? Min-wax, varnish, mineral oil, ect, ect?I do keep my hand tools inside when not in use, not in the bed of my truck.Any input is appreciated.RG
Reply:A friend of mine puts all his shovels ,rakes ,picks, ect on a sheet of ply and sprays them with " 1-2-3 " every year.1-2-3 is 1 part varnish,2 parts linseed oil and 3 parts paint thinner. We put it in a garden sprayer and coat untreated wood we want to keep. I've used it on screen doors, gates, window sills, ect. After 2-4hrs wipe handles with a rag.
