hi, this is a mig welder that i bought from sears a few years ago. yesterday the wire got stuck in the feed line so i pulled it out. i put new wire in and it wont go past the halfway point. i hand fed wire thru both sides and there seems to be a piece of wire stuck somewhere in the middle. i have taken everything apart but i cannot seem to get the liner feedline out, i pulled back the plastic couplers at the end and front of the hose but the wire feedline just wont budge. i called sears and they said a repair is a min. $35 +. i want to fix this myself but i cant get the wire feedliner out.any suggestions?
Reply:if the liner the problem, you can get one for probably $20. They are pretty easy to replace. The liner is just a bunch of wire coiled up. Usually at one end of the gun cable or the other there is a set screw that holds that thing in there tight. Might be at the gun, or at the connector (at the feeder), or both. If you have the manual, it should be pretty clear.Smithboy...if it ain't broke, you ain't tryin'.
Reply:Perhaps your line got badly crimped. Anyway a new liner wouldn't hurt. If you do replace the liner make sure you cut it off long. It will be fed into gun from the welder. As the liner comes out of then gun you should cut it off about 3/8 in from the nozzle (the part the tip screws directly into). When the tip is screwed into the nozzle the liner will be pushed into the gun. The liner is like the break housing on a bicycle if the housing is loose then breaks don't actuate properly, likewise if the liner is loose then there is great opportunity for binding. The binding will usually occur at the gun as you move it into different positions. This is also important because if the liner does not push against the tip then each time you change the wire you will have to remove the tip in order to get the wire out of the gun.Last edited by tapwelder; 01-15-2006 at 11:58 PM.
