I am going to be welding a dog kennel together and it is going to be out of galvanized tube. I am wondering if there is any way to remove the galv. from the ends with out grinding?
Reply:I use muratic acid.  Not knowing what concentration you would start with, I get mine at Lowes.  Mix it approx. 1 part acid to 20 parts water.  Let the pieces sit about an hour.  You can do it in a 5 gallon bucket, tough be aware of tipping hazard with long pieces.  I use a 35 gallon plastic drum.
Reply:Acetylene torch with an oxidizing flame works well.  Don't breath the smoke.
Reply:Try a scotch brite pad soak in vinegar, or soak the tube/pipe end in vinegar and scrub with the scotch brite pad.

Reply:Also, I believe Praxair has a shielding gas, specifically for welding galvanized.I'd like to reiterate the fact that the fumes are toxic.  Don't breathe 'em.-Heath
