Hello, For the last year and a half, I have had access to quite a few older TIG welders such as Miller 320 and 330's, Lincoln Idealarc 300's, etc. I have been brining them home and getting them cleaned, inspected, equiped with torchs, etc.for resale. Often they need somewhat "minor" repairs, such as the hi-frequency, footpedal, solenoids etc. and this is the problem as I am a complete beginner at repairs to welders. I was wondering if anyone knew of a book on welder repair or on how TIG welders actually are constructed and work. I realize the welders all differ somewhat in thier wiring and construction, but I would like to know the basics of how they work, i.e. what are the components of a typical hi-frequency circuit and what do these components do. I also realize that to become proficient in welder repair takes years of experience, but I would like to at least get familiar with the basics. I have been relying on a freind with a welder repair service for advise so far, but would like to stop having to bug him all the time. Also, I just picked up a Miller SRTA-2P which Miller, when I inquiried about a manual, advised that the machine was built in 1956 and they have no manuals available. Would anyone know of a source for the manual? The machine runs well except that there is no hi-frequency if the switch is in the start position. If switched to continuous the high-frequence works normally. The foot pedal checks out good. I dressed and gapped the points and the two capacitors show open circuit with an ohm meter and seem to be OK. I was told to check the voltage relay for the hi-frequency, but have no idea where it is.Thank You! |
