Check this out www.anvilfire.com/iForge/index.htm Go to: no. 166. Demonstration: Safety III. This item is at the top of the list, it is out of sequence. Well worth the read regardless of what you weld.

Reply:I was talking with my grandmother last night about my late grandfather who was a welder for over 50 years. Now and then she passes advice to me. Things she picked up along the way. Last night it was galvanized metal. She said it will give you chill and fever. I took her advice w/out impeding the conversation. I tell you something else I learned last night. But 1st don't get the impression either of my grandparent are dummies. They may have never logged on the internet or even attempted to understand modern medicine. However you'd be a fool to ever question either one of them if you didn't have your facts straight. There is an old ancient remedy for Metal Fume Fever .Sweet milk. Now I'm 43 and I've never heard the term Sweet Milk. "Is that like Eagle Brand milk?" I asked. She looked at me like I'd just fell off the turnip waggon. "You don't know what sweet milk is?"I said "huh-uh" Well it's milk that ain't sour. Now I know.So anyway, my grandpa would drink tons of Sweet milk before during and after welding anything that would give him Metal Fume Fever as we call it.It's not real clear to me if it worked or not. She just said to do it. So your smart you'll listen to her.I'll save the sweet milk and not burn zinc.Last edited by TPnTX; 01-26-2006 at 08:41 AM. |
