I am looking for a welder for one purpose  to do exhaust any info would be helpfull thanks.
Reply:Think you need to be more specific.  Do you weld?  What welding processes? Is expense an issue?  You going one exhaust or more?  Are cosmetics an issue?
Reply:I have welded some . I have used wire feed welders and i have had some exsperience with arc welders mostly welding sheet metal  . I am wanting to just do my own cars. I used clamps on them before now i would rather weld them i need them to look ok. I have got to pass inspection I dont want to spend a fortune just something reasonable just not sure what would be best for exhaust
Reply:Since you arent going into business as an exhaust repair shop, any 135 amp (120v) mig machine would probably work just fine.  I use an old millermatic 130 for stuff like that.  In fact, I just used it for some tractor exhaust work with fine results.  If you plan to do more (thicker stuff), you should consider that, but if it's like you say...a single-purpose, occasional-use machine it would be perfect for the job.Smithboy...if it ain't broke, you ain't tryin'.
Reply:i do not need to weld exhaust very often and do not do exhaust  for anyone except myself  wire feed welder be ok would i need to run gas  or can i just use fluxcore or would arc welder be better  thanks for the help
Reply:Howdy Howdy!  I would stay away from fluxcore. it's affordable at first, but the wire costs way more, and the weld quality (in this class machine) for your type of project would not be very good at all.  Fluxcore tends to burn through thin exhuast work.  Mig with gas would be the best choice in my mind.  Stick welding exhaust would be a real pain, and major burn through unless your a seasoned weldor.  I would get a 130 class machine, with an 80 cu ft tank and 100% CO-2.   75/25 gas if you are welding on rusty materials.  100% CO-2 helps with penetration for smaller machines, but has a bit more spatter, and you may nead a 100% CO-2 rated regulator, as some inert gas regulators freeze up, due to the nature of this expanding gas getting cooler in the regulator.  Some thoughts.  Brian Lee  Sparkeee27  Perhaps renting a machine may be a better idea for ya?
Reply:Like sparkeee says, go with gas on exhaust...it's pretty thin and fluxcore is just not the best for stuff like that.  I use stick a lot, but I would not use it on exhaust unless it was all I had.as an asside or maybe inside joke...it's funny that the "seasoned welder" references are still popping up...the effects people have without even intending it...I am always amazed.Smithboy...if it ain't broke, you ain't tryin'.
Reply:Ditto on the inside joke. Kinda wish it had turned out different.
Reply:Thanks for all your help i got a wire feed mig today
