Often I sit in my office during the week wishing I was home in my shed (shop) mucking around with things, or better still having a job where I get to work with my hands and with steel all the time. Then yesterday (Sunday) I had to do a project at home - move a gate. Firstly the existing gate had to be cut of the wall it was attched too - the fittings had rusted. Then it had to be shortened and narrowed. I had to weld up a section to take the lock and attach it to another wall. And I had to weld some brackets for the hinges to rehang the gate. The problem was, I had to do it all that day, otherwise the yard would not be secure. So rather than being able to take my time and stop when it got too hot, stop for a leisurely lunch, stop when a neighbour wandered past looking for someone to talk to, stop when the kids wanted to play etc, I had to keep going. If something was causing me problems, I couldn't say: 'It's too hot, I'll have a look at that tomorrow.' It was all a bit too much like 'work'.So now it's 10am Monday morning, I'm sitting in my air conditioned office having just finished a coffee and the newspaper, and I'm thinking: 'Gee, I'm glad I don't have to get the tools out today.'I take my hat off to all you guys who work with steel and work to deadlines day after day.Scott
Reply:Well, Thanks------ It aint easy but somebody has to do it. There are a lot of worse jobs out there. I'm pretty sure a lot of people will agree with me.
