do you think i really need a auto darkening helmet? my local hardware store has the ones with adjustable darkness is this good? i will only be stick welding, do you think its neccesary?
Reply:They're nice, but not necessary. However, I use mine mostly with stick.Smithboy...if it ain't broke, you ain't tryin'.
Reply:thanks, i probly wont get one, but do you prefer green or blue lens?
Reply:I actually don't know. I don't think they are the green ones, but I am not sure. I have about half a dozen regular helmets...I only bought a couple, though. Most were accessories in equipment trades. I think my big screen is a blue lens...and, that's the non-auto I use the most....but, I really don't have a preference, I don't think.Smithboy...if it ain't broke, you ain't tryin'.
Reply:i have one of each(the colours) and i prefer the blue
Reply:I don't have one. Can't justify the expense. I just stick weld stuff around the house on weekends.
Reply:same!!!!
Reply:for me its gold all teh way...gotta be more delicate but they sure are niceIF it Catches...Let it Burn
Reply:I bought a Hobart one from Tractor Supply Co. the 200.00 Xl one. So far I don't think I could go back to the old way I love it. For me who is just starting out and trying to weld every hour after work, every day Its good.
Reply:I love the gold lens!!! I love the clarity that they give me. I also have a speedglas though.
Reply:Do you need it? No. Would it help you? I think it would. I welded for 25 years before I bought one. Be careful though they are addictive. I now have 3 speedglas 9002X's with sidewindows, ones a flexview. I probably use it the most. Its nice to have a clear lens to grind. I also have 3 Jacksons with the flip up lense. 2 are shade 10 green lense 1 has a shade 10 auto dark solar powered. It works ok but by the time you get the solar power part in it the lens is really small to see out of. I tried the gold lens a few years ago but with the bevel on the cornors it held the cover plate off the lens and it cast a shadow. I worked with it about a half hour, tried different things to get rid of the shadow then used it for a frisbee. It didn't even work good for that. Its still laying out there somewhere
Reply:I have the Lincoln one sold at Home Depot. Because I wear glasses I can't use a regular helment easily without the glasses coming off evey time I flip the helment down. Didn't want to start using the string that holds the glasses on your head so I opted for the solar auto darkening helmet.Neil
Reply:I do have one and they are great. While handy for any type of arc welding they really provide the greatest benefit for stick.DennisThermal Arc 185-TSWMillermatic Challenger 172VictorO/AAtlas Craftsman 12 by 24 LatheEsab PCM-875Wholesalem Tool Mill-Drill |
