Brass and copper

I've got a couple projects that i want to do in brass and one in copper. Now the question is can i use a MIG and if so what gas do I use?

Reply:i've tigged "oxygen free" copper in the past...no fun at all  but it can be done  ...zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:also be stick welded.We have 4 or 5 products for this application.

Reply:I've silver brazed tons of copper and it works great.  I've also tig welded like 1/8 sheet without too much problem.  The thing is that copper absorbs oxygen when it is hot and when you are trying to weld thicker stuff the heat will get ahead of your weld and gets contaminated.  Helium might let you weld quicker and stay ahead of the heat.

Reply:I just welded up some tantalum bonded to copper for the past 3 days now thats a nightmare  used helium/argon mix and preheated to 550+ and back purged the heeck out of the tantalum side. I took some pics this morning. Thats got to be one heck of an explosion to get them two materials to stick together
Reply:I've tigged both brass and copper. Not much fun, but it can be done with great results i might add. Siver solder might be the way to go though.
