is underwater welding like pipeline welding, as far as the jobs are concerned? do underwater welders go out and weld for like 2-3 months and then come home for a week or two or do they live on the rig? i am real interested in doing underwater welding, but dont know how sensible it would be for me living so far inland
Reply:normally you become a good diver first the welding comes after if your a good welder on land forget sub welding
Reply:You first do diving, then you do mechanical stuff...then you do VERY LITTLE welding. I considered going to the schools for it, but they wanted me to start all over at square one. I explained that I already was a pretty good welder and likely wouldn't need all the classes. After they figured out that I was no kid with big dreams, but instead was a guy that was thinking with my head, they told me that the job is about 95% mechanical work, and very little welding.I don't want to be a mechanic. |
