hi, i am doing a retrofit boat rail out of ss.what is the chemical used on the weld to get that polished finish? need to not see the weld bead. right now it is brownish. thank. help

Reply:i use a formax rouge (green then go to white) on a cotton buff wheel on my buffer/grinder to polish SS props and alum. partsbut im sure you can adapt a buff wheel to a hand grindersome use a polishing compound for autos on a buffera fine ss wire brush(on hand grinder) will buff up but leave a satin finish

Reply:if there is a grain in the metal we use a scotch pad and baby oil also i did some work on handrails for a mates boat we ran water through the rails to stop them bending
