I'm wanting to curtain of my shop from my welding/grinding operations. I want to simply make a 2 sided curtain that will keep debris from the rest of the shop. I want it floor to ceiling on somekind og rail like a shower curtain. Would polytarp be out of the question? The welding curtains I've seen so far is either pre cut or comes in rolls that would need stitched together. Not interested in that. I'm wanting some  pros and cons on material ideas please. I'm more concerned with debris/grinding containment then UV protection. Thanks snoboy
Reply:I dont know that poly tarp would be out of the question.  Welding curtain would be better, but I suppose one of the heavy duty silver/brown 2-sided tarps instead of the single-layer cheap blue ones would be ok.   As long as the tarp isn't laying over something horizontal where the sparks could sit and smolder on it, and if it's far enough away from the grinding not to get directly pelted with hot sparks, I don't see it catching fire too easily.   I worked in one shop where we had a grinding and sanding room cordoned off from the rest of the shop, floor to cieling, with what appeared to be welding curtain material and that worked good.  I dont know where they got the curtains that were so tall (over 10 feet high I think) but maybe an industrial supply shop could get them, possibly Grainger?
Reply:Harbor freight has weldign curtains for fairly cheap.
Reply:Try this link--http://www.sprayboothfilters.net/Page_36x.htmlScroll down to the "Insta-Curtains"  -- the 64" x 5 or 25 yard rolls look like a good price.  Or you can probably get Tillman or other brand 6'x8' at your LWS, but higher priced with grommets on all 4 sides.I use this type of material on my patio to temporarily shield the walls and windows from grinding sparks.
Reply:you might think about heavy material( a canvas type) then have a fire retardent applyedsome dry clearners can do this  or sodium silicate (water glass) and do it your self
