i recently saw a video where there was aguy using a henrod 2000 and he was cutting 1/2" metal like butter,my question is with some practice could that tourch replace a plasma cutter?thanks
Reply:It's just a different type of torch for oxy-acetylene, nothing really magical about it, the guy on the video just knows what he's doing. Makes it look easy though doesn't he !
Reply:so could i replace a plazma with it?
Reply:Not really.  It's a very nice OA welding torch.  I'm sure it cuts mild steel pretty well, but it's expensive and a plasma cutter is more useful.-Heath
Reply:The Henrob won't cut stainless or aluminum,  your plamsma will cut those materials.DennisThermal Arc 185-TSWMillermatic Challenger 172VictorO/AAtlas Craftsman 12 by 24 LatheEsab PCM-875Wholesalem Tool Mill-Drill
Reply:Actually in the video they show the guy "cutting" aluminum, he is actually melting through it but does a nice job. As I said they have someone on that video that can really use a torch, unlike myself!- John
Reply:I aquired a Henrob a few years back, didn't really know what it was apart from a fancy oxy torch. I use it (and really like it) for welding, and have cut thin material quite successfully with it. But I aquired a plasma cutter six months ago, which totally knocks my socks off. Get a plasma cutter!

Reply:all this newfangles stuff.im 16 and i love the old ways of doin things [i.e stick welding,o/a for cutting]it just seems better to me.i guess im just a traditionalist.i like using my hands and skill to do things instead of just pressing a button and its done.
Reply:Just my opinion... if I could have one and ONLY one, it'd be a plasma.  Especially after owning one.I am not slaming the o/a torch in any way, shape, or form... I've welded MANY exhaust systems with one ( would rather use a torch over mig... haven't tried TIG on exhaust yet )The 'which is better'... is like a 'ford / chevy' debate.... each has their plusses and minuses.Where I really LOVE a plasma, is on the thinner materials...  crank it up and rip the metal.  You can almost cut as fast as you can drag the torch., bout like ripping tissue paper.the ULTIMATE (in my honest opinion) would be to have BOTH.  o/a for what it really kicks butt at... and the plasma for what it does well.
Reply:The Iron store where I get all my iron has 2 plasma cutes. they cut a lot of steel in a weeks time. The money they have saved using plasma has more than payed for the units. Gases are not cheap and cuting it dont take long befor your back for a refill.
Reply:I'll be the defender of both O/A and plasma  .  There is seldom such a thing as either/or. Plasmas do one bootyfull job of cutting whatever they can cut. Wonderfull technology for sure, but replace a O/A set-up, never.Would I give up either, nope.
