I'm looking for opinions and real world experiences on what would be the most versatile MIG machine, one that I can take on the road to plug into a gas machine and into my garage. I know everyone generally likes the MM210, but potability is out with it. I know I will be basically limited to the 175-180 amp range. Or am I better off with a spool gun? I want to have aluminum capability also. Just trying to get all my ducks in a row before i jump in.
Reply:Hi. Just had to reply to your question. If you are looking to save some money in the long run it has to be the MM210 for sure.Look at the extra supply's you would need to run aluminum on anything else if not if that still doesn't't get it over and you still need portability what about a inverter tig at about 40-50pds they are as portable as it goes with plug and play along with it!MM210Snycrowave180SDSprectrum625Lincoln135sptRanger81 baaaddd welding habit
Reply:How big a want (need) is this desired aluminum capability?  You're going to sacrifice the best portable steel machine to get rated aluminum capacity.  What kind of aluminum jobs do you foresee?  Aluminum is usually a 210A+ machine's realm for most real jobs, anyway.
Reply:I aready have the dynast 200dx, I want a mig where TIG isn't practical, such as a larger job. The time I save will pay off in the long run.
Reply:Sorry MAC, didn't see your reply. So would it be more feasible to get a spool  gun for the field so I can use the power source's output? I can always add a small MIG later in the garage if I don't want to run the gas machine in the driveway.
Reply:Have you checked out the MM Passport? http://www.millerwelds.com/products/...atic_passport/John -  fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!-  bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com
Reply:Seeing as you already have aluminum capability in the Dynasty, I'd second the recommendation for the Passport.  It's not designed for aluminum, but is the best portable GMAW machine in all other respects.See my other thread.  My Passport, as of today, is now for sale.
Reply:Hey MAC how old is your passport and how easily have you exceeded it's duty cycle with it?The miller site claims a mere 20% duty cycle at 150amp and 21 volts.....Freelance Fabber91 GMC 3500 Portable welding truckLincoln Weldanpower 8000 gas welderMiller CST 250 Smaw/Gtaw inverterMillermatic 210 gmaw line welderHyperterm plasma
Reply:It's a year-old.  Factory reconditioned when I bought it, but has a brand new M-10 gun on it.I doubt I've ever exceeded its duty cycle.  It's the mobile rig and is usually doing short duty cycle heavy repairs or light-gauge tubing.  A bigger MIG is in the shop for production work of all sizes.150A is fairly significant at 20%, especially for the size of the machine.
Reply:hmm, how much amps do you usually use when your short circuiting 1/8 steel plate with .035 wire? How much you hoping to get for that passport?Freelance Fabber91 GMC 3500 Portable welding truckLincoln Weldanpower 8000 gas welderMiller CST 250 Smaw/Gtaw inverterMillermatic 210 gmaw line welderHyperterm plasma
