Tig welder question.

I'm looking at a new tig machine. My question is, what effect does kicking the hz up to as high as 250 do for the bead on alum? And or is going as high as 250 something I should consider?mm135HTP Invertig 201 With water cooler9" Southbend LatheLots of hand tools.
Reply:increasing the AC-DC frequency tightens the arc/improves arc focus. the resulting weld bead will be narrower. higher frequency is most useful for fillet welds- the tighter arc will melt the root faster allowing higher travel speedsconversely lower frequencys give a wider, shallow penetrating arc- ideal for build up work on castingsgoing as high as 250Hz can be useful- only you can decide if it's worth paying the extra. operator skill is still the most important factor- arc shaping (frequency/balance/waveform) simply make some jobs a bit easier/faster
Reply:Anyway you look at this...Power is Power...Period.More is merrier... 250 amp machines will  let you do most anything.."There's no replacement for displacement"...zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:Thanks for the input. I can find a lot of info here just couldnt find that.I'm a hobby welder that does a lot of motorcycle exhaust in mild steel and stainless. For the brackets and things I need to make a 200 amp mach is what I was looking at. And since space is at a premium for me an inverter is what I'm looking at.I understand there is no substitute for skill. Currently I am enrolled in a tig class at the local college. and will take the advanced summer class. 6 weeks 5 nights a week 4 hours a night. For what class costs I can't buy the argon to practice. ZT's class was a great help also I learned a lot.I want to weld like Zap and Paul when I grow up. Reply:Thanks for the compliment Price.  I will hopefully be hosting another class in the near future and we can mess around with the Hz controller on my TIG so you can see the difference....and nobody needs to grow up. Reply:Paul, if you have another class I will be there. I need some more help in my mig. After being at your shop I have a whole new respect for the abilities of my mm135.Getting the tig alum down.
