Anyone guilty of this, if the root has gone wrong,{ touching up the root from inside the pipe}
Reply:Yeah, if you can get to it.  We've got people at work that do this all day, slide up in spots to grind and/or back weld spots. It's a pain to have to cut it all out, clean it up, rebevel, and refit it.  Especially when you're working 2.5" wall 30" ID P-91 pipe or something like it.  On the other hand, If the whole root or a major part is screwed up, then there is operator error that needs to be adjusted.

Reply:You do what you gotta do to get the quality.How about this: How many of you have fed the filler from the inside while rooting, either from the end or through the gap on the opposite side? Or run part of a root on the inside through the gap opposite side using stick?I'v never tried it with stick (but have met a couple of people that claim to hav done so) but I have fed TIG  filler through the gap.
Reply:I agree entirely enlpck, however,its frowned upon by inspectors and welding engineers here in Europe.

Reply:enlpck, I feed from behind the gap everyday.  Many times I have no choice, those gaps aren't all a nice 1/8" wide.  And when you have a purge going, it'll push the filler out if it's not inside.  Make it slick to make it shoot ya know.
