As of 9:29 P.M. last night, I am a certified welder!  3G plate SMAW. (B-U2aGF or D1.1). Do I have to do anything to keep my certificate "current"? Thanks!
Reply:Congratulations!Post some pics of your work so we can have a look too.
Reply:AWS D1.1 states that the qualification remains in effect indefinitely unless you do not weld with the process for which you are qualified for a period exceeding six months, or if there is a specific reason to question your ability.
Reply:Congrats!!!Is the cert yours, or did you certify for a company you work for? If the cert is in the name of the company and not yours you MIGHT ONLY be certified while you are employed by that company._________________Chris

Reply:It's mine. I took a welding class at the local college. I'd post some shots, but I never brought any stuff home with me and it's all in the recycle bin at the school. I will post some shots of my first-time TIGing after Wednesday's class, though.Out of the allowed total crack length of .375 when destructively tested (bent), mine totaled .223 with two sections perfect (4 one-inch strips out of the 8" plate)

Reply:At work we got at least 2 guys that come from a "welding school" and they were certified.  Well one was building ladders one day and when they set the ladders down after they were painted a couple of the steps fell out.  Do yall hear me?  The weld didn't crack, it didn't just move a little, IT FELL OUT  The steps were 4" wide and welded solid on the bottom.  I took a hammer and tapped almost every one of the steps out.  Someone could have been seriously injured.  He was immediatly fired.  I'm certified too, but it still don't mean nothing.  We give a welding test before we hire any welders no matter the certs. they have.Oh by the way congrats DewayneDixieland WeldingMM350PLincoln 100Some torchesOther misc. tools

Reply:It's an AWS cert, meeting their standards for the plate size, etc.
