Looking to buy first welder for home projects. I feel like Miller 175, Lincoln 175 and Hobart 187 are the best matches. 2 Questions:Is the Hobart 187 worth $150 more than a Lincoln Pro-Mig 175?Does Miller make "store brand" welders that are nearly identical to the MM175 like Lincoln does for their SP175T?I am kind of surprised to find Miller's MM175 over $200 more than Lincoln's PM175 (internet delivered prices) and wondering if I'm missing something. It's my understanding that Hobart is NOT a store branded Miller 175.
Reply:The Miller store brand welders are Hobart They are not identical but are made by the same company. Miller and Hobart are good, I own 2 Hobart's and my dad has a Miller. I have a Lincoln at work and it works fine. As for the HH187 I own a HH180 and like it a lot but for $150.00 I would grab the Lincoln with no regrets. Just my 2 Cents. Good luck with whatever you get.DrivesectorDrivesector Hobart Handler 140Hobart Handler 180Ready Welder 2Hobart Air Force 400Airco Stinger 225Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most."OZZY"
Reply:I went with the 187. Watch for the 20% off sales at Sears. I got mine for 615 with tax and shipping. good machine.
Reply:I looked at the Hobart Handler 140, 187 and the Lincoln Pro MIg 180. I went with the Lincoln Pro Mig 180. I welded with it for first time today. I really liked it well. I had been using the Miller matic 175 I believe at work. I love the Lincoln Pro Mig 180 alot so far. Whitey
Reply:All three are excellent machines. If you see significant savings on any of them over the other, go for it; though I would have expected the Hobart to be the cheaper. Of course, while excellent, the Lincoln 175 is the older model, the new one is a 180. But, the newer Hobart 187 is definitely worth the extra money over the older Hobart 180; even though many like them, the 187 is that much better.

Reply:I was in Lowes picking up some fluxcore Lincoln wire and they still had the Pro Mig 175 for sale at 599.00 as opposed to the newer Pro MIg 180 at 659.00. May want to check your Lowes or call around to a few in your area.Whitey |
