I just bought a HH187 and am wanting to do some practicing. Where is the best place to buy gas? TSC wants like $100 for a littly cylinder. What do you recommend for practice? Should I start out practicing with Flux first then move on to Mig later? What types and thickness material should I practice on? Thx.

Reply:Best place to buy gas depends on where you live.  Try the welding supply store.  If they don't have it they will direct you to where you can get it.  Your profile doesn't say where you live but if you live in the pacific northwest central welding and airgas both supply welding gas.  I use central welding personally. What you start with is up to you.  I'd start with gas metal arc welding instead of flux core arc welding because there is more to learn and when you master it flux core will come natural to you and seem like a cakewalk.  You have to learn about hooking up gas, setting gas flow, and with gas welding the angle you are welding in relation to the material is much more important than flux core and you won't learn any bad habits like you would starting flux core.
Reply:I live in southeastern, Ohio. Not alot of local places as far as I know of.
Reply:you *might* try a local soda pop distribution place... ( CO2 )...  (( or beer keg filler upper supply supplier ))
Reply:I got a tank and got if filled for $40 off my uncle's brother. Good deal a? I own the tank too now.

Reply:Both GMAW and FCAW are necessary processes if you plan on doing any variety of welding at all.
Reply:Its cheaper in the long run to get a bigger tank.  I think you'd be happy with a 150cf or bigger.  Id lease it so you dont have to worry about recertifying the tank in future, and you can allways trade up or down if needed.Various GrindersVictor Journeyman torch200cf Acet. 250cf oxygenLincoln 175 plus/alpha2 gunLincoln v205t tigLincoln 350mpEsab 650 plasmaWhen you can get up in the morning, Its a good day.Live each day like its your last.

Reply:Technically, you are all kind of wrong. FCAW can be self shielded or run with gas (dual shield), so "you mean flux and gas" is wrong.FCAW is only wire fed so "it's wire fed FCAW" is redundant. And most people aren't MIGing at all, because a majority use C25, an active gas, so "yeah, FCAW and MIG is the correct term" is false, it should read FCAW and GMAW.
Reply:Here we go again.. ...zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
