Reply:I browsed this forum by accident and began reading posts from people asking for help with welding procedures and thought I could be of some assistance. Of course I'd never think to step on the toes of any resident expert. My apologies.
Reply:Zap is pretty good natured about his toes. It's always good to have someone with lots of experience and who is willing to share...welcome.Smithboy...if it ain't broke, you ain't tryin'.
Reply:Willing and able may not apply here. It is my experience with co-workers who I am asked to train that they either don't have the necessary skills for quality welding or more common, they just don't listen to the advice you are trying to give them. Hence the content of my first post. My specific area of expertise at this time is pressure vessel fab and welding along with related piping systems to National Board specs. I was motivated to post because being a welder by trade, I am starkly aware of the declining number of qualified welders in the trade, and the absence of qualified welders to replace them. An experienced welder with good skills knows that welding school is valuable knowledge, but it is the experienced people we work with while on the job that make welders out of us. I'd be happy to share knowledge, and trade secrets with anyone serious about welding. Then I can look forward to the day my company hires another qualified welder and I can stop spending all my time grinding out and fixing the welds my co workers won't let me help them improve (I do try!) hehe
Reply:Welcome, Elvis. Feel free to start commenting on any question that comes around. Most of us won't think of a question we've had until we NEED it, then we'll wonder where the heck you are, of course.Meanwhile, we welcome your contributions to the general banter as well.Cheers!
Reply:Western New York, huh? Damn. I'd love to have someone teach me to properly weld. I guess that's why I am eating information up online as well as in a book. Well I am new here too and I'm sure I'll be looking forward to any answer/comment you have that could help me.***Stick welding like, woah.***
