Due to things I've learnt here:1. Preparing the steel. I'd never been too anal about it because I didn't think it mattered all that much. Now I clean it better and it seems to make a difference.2. Lead connection. My leads were pretty frayed where they met the ring terminals. A couple of inches lopped off each end and new terminals fixed that. I didn't realise the connection mattered all that much.3. Keeping rods dry. This one had never occured to me. My rods have always sat around the shed and when the weather is like it is here now (3rd wet weekend in a row), they suck up so much water they go dark and the ends get rust on them. All rods are now kept in the house. It's alot easier to do good welds with clean steel, decent connections and dry rods.
Reply:Glad to hear that,Scott. This is a great site to learn on. I've never figured I was too old to learn something and therefore always try to keep my eyes and ears open and my mouth shut when pertinent info is being handed out.
