My soon to be father in law came across an acetylene/ Oxygen torch set up for cheap the other day.  The regualtors are linde, and I cant make out the brand of the torch(something about Virgina Beach on the sticker?).  Everything looked good, but has probubly sat for a little while.  What do I need to check before trying to hook this up and go.  The hose didnt look terrible, they had a powder on the outside?  The to be in law said it would be fine, but I now he's no expert either.  I just don't want to blow myself up, but figure this stuff should work. Thanks for the help.Todd
Reply:really about the only thing I can think of is check it visually for any major defects and if its a combination torch then screw the cutting head off and check the O-rings in it.  Other than that you are gonna have to hook it up and try it out to find out anything else.I'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man......
Reply:Thanks for the reply.Does anybody know much about Linde? I check around the net, but havn't found much.  The set up will definatly work for now, as I had nothing before. I am wondering if parts will be avalible when needed. Also, when setting up the torch for the first time how do I adjust the knob on the bottom of the torch for the oxygen? Is a 2:1 oxy/Act good for the regulators?  I think 16 psi Oxy, and 8psi Act?  I have always been spoiled up to this point with most things set, and I just light and go.Thanks for the help as I hope to keep both of my hands.Todd
Reply:i think Linde turned into ESAB.  on the bottom of the torch just open the knob up and adjust the flame with the top knob.  I usually run 5psi on the acetylene and around 40 on the oxygen but it changes depending on what I'm doing.DewayneDixieland WeldingMM350PLincoln 100Some torchesOther misc. tools
Reply:For safety's sake, I wanted to add that 5 psi Acetylene and 40 psi Oxygen is for "cutting".  For general "welding", use 8-10 psi Acetylene and 8-10 psi Oxygen. Born2Weld
Reply:Thanks for the info, I just use the torches for cutting, so thats good to know. The torch seems to be an Airco. corncob handle, and seems to mix in the head, does that seem right?  Any thoughts on Airco?  I hooked up the Oxy side over the weekend and it seems to work ok, no leaks, I didnt dial in the regulator yet, but it seemed to be fine. Evidently I will need an adapter to hook up my Acetylene.  The tank has internal threads, and the regulaors are set up for external threads.  I figure this would be a pretty common adapter? Thanks for the info.Todd
