I am welding a new chassis component for my F500 autocross car. Material is 1" square steel. 1/8" wall. I need to weld an upright piece at the corner of two horizontal pieces joined at 90 degrees. In other words the corner/edge of a box.Is it best to weld the upright on top of the corner joint? In between the corner? Inside of the corner?I hope this is clearer than mud.TIALee TiltonSCCA F500 Pilot
Reply:I personally like to 45 degree the corner and then weld the upright on top, but that's personal preference.  I honestly don't know that it would be much difference either way as long as its prepped and welded soundly.  A picture might help if we knew what the joint was attached to....I'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man......
Reply:I forgot to mention that the corners will be 45 degrees. Here is a photo of the old chassis component. The upright would be placed at the left and right rear corners of an identically shaped structure.Lee TiltonSCCA F500 Pilot
