Which way are the electrode's set in the holder for stick welding? Don't laugh. I just bought a Lincoln ac 225. Gonna try my hand at some stick. Thx
Reply:The bare end in the holder.  Have a blast.David Real world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:You have no idea how hard it is not to   right now......zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:That is what I thought. LOL, wanted to be sure. Thx for not making fun of me.
Reply:Don't you love newbee's?
Reply:I mean yeah it was pretty common sense but. Oh n/m thx lol.
Reply:Don't worry about it..I once thought a micrometer was a "precision c-clamp".. ...zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:Badazzbu,Here are two links with some basic info just look for stick or SMAWhttp://www.lincolnelectric.com/knowl...curriculum.asphttp://www.millerwelds.com/resources/This should help some if you take the time to exploreHave fun burning.Martin MC Weld TechAWS-CWIAWS-CWEwww.linkedin.com/pub/martin-cramer/20/b36/940/

Reply:Damn, took me a couple minutes to get going but it is different. I run a bead but it wasnt pretty. LOL. I still likey though. Looks like a damn flame thrower at the end of the electrode lol.
Reply:Hey Yogie, nice quad. I have a 06 SE 700 Raptor.
Reply:What is that a V Force 700? Any mods? I have Yoshi full exhaust, Pro Design intake w/ K&N filter, Dynatek programmer.
Reply:Starting to get a hang of it as far as striking an arc. I do good for the 1st couple seconds then the puddle seems to get all crazy big fireball at the end of electrode. I've tried speeding up and slowing down. I am having fun already though. Didn't think I would like it.
Reply:Keep the arc shorter than the rod diamaterReal world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:Turn the heat way up.  Burn a rod or two.  Then turn it way down and try another bead.  This will help you understand the two extremes in too "hot" and too "cold" as far as amperage goes. I just started a few months or so ago as well.  I never thought it would be so much fun.  Now when the wife has me go shopping with her, I find myself looking at all the welds on the metal clothing racks in the store. ***Stick welding like, woah.***
Reply:Also try 6013 if you haven't already. I started with 6011 and it was an out of control beast compared to 6013.Cool stuff though, isn't it? Took me a while for getting the hang of feeding the rod.- John

Reply:A little hint I use with new guys to break them in along the same lines as turning the amperage to different extremes. If your welder has an amphenol plug and will take a foot pedal--use it on SMAW. It makes it very quick to demonstrate and many times I use that on a tricky poorly setup joint. It doesn't take long to figure out where you should be running in the range with that config. If I'm welding away from my machine such as on a boat sometimes I use a tig hand controller velcro'd on the stinger handle.Besides that, it's just fun to play with and it cuts the learning curve. What electrode are you actually burning? As mentioned previously, some stuff just burns better than others to learn with. (Such as 7024)Lastly, get the "Procedure Handbook of Welding" by Lincoln and read the section on stick electrodes and how they are designated and what polarities they are to be used with. Knowledge from sources such as that will make you a better welder faster and increase your "pride factor."'Till laterGreg
