But here it is in my lap. I took the boat out last week on thursday, and since I had originally planned to try a new launch ramp that I would have been unfamiliar with, I removed my Honda portable genset/welder from the truck and left it at work locked up until after my trip. You kind of get the drift of where this is going, I bet! I came back monday morning with the truck to pickup the machine, only to find ominous after ominous clue leading me to the discovery that we had been broken into at work and the main item taken was...one Honda EW171... welder/generator. I spent the whole day today with the mig welder adding new security features to the lot and storage shed. My mood has gone right out the scuppers these last two days. Between you me and the Lord, I have been wanting to go shopping for some new machinery, but not like this! It would have been much safer in the truck, I assume. Oh for the bright side to shine on me Lord!~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Lesson learned, where security is in question, don't stop to take pictures, somebody knew this was inside and I had it unloaded in 5 minutes, max.City of L.A. Reply:Sorry man. Seems like they must be taking inventory sometimes.
Reply:Sorry this happened to you but if they are anything like the guys I went to school with you don't even let your hood lie around. Maybe word of mouth will get back to you if you don't make a big deal about it at first.Laura MM 180Chop SawDewalt grinderhelpful husband
Reply:Sorry to hear that. I really do hate worthless people who steal for their next high. That's a sad way to live a life. One day those people will pay for their actions.***Stick welding like, woah.***
Reply:Maybe it will be like near many construction sites where they steal a $4000 item and come back in a week and offer it to you for $50 so they can buy some crack. This is common around here.
Reply:Sucks.......... I hate theives._________________Chris

Reply:Tanglediver, Hope you bust ‘em. Sounds like the thief may be near.I'm sure everyone here has lost plenty. Let's hear your tips on prevention.I have a pretty good handle on it now. KNOCK on wood. Here's a few things that seem to help a lot.Prospective thieves know we're serious at first glance. Nearly, everything is engraved, deep, everything. Looks ugly, destroys fence value. I set up a small bench with a vise and ball shaped carbide grinder. If a tool wasn't marked, after use, it went to this bench, slowly we caught up. More important than name and city, little slogans like: NOT-4-SALE, STOLEN PROPERTY, REWARD, REPORT THEFT, RETURN TO. Thief and fence know, no excuses, just possession can subject them to arrest. Tools lost or honestly borrowed, migrate home. Word is out, proven, worse than the dogs! Madman hunts thieves for sport. He'll spend a thousand to recover fifty (and save 5000). They heard - high tech redneck plays with cameras and gps tracking. While casing the job, they spot "setup", know item left unattended is probably "bait". Big reward out with last known gps location of missing item. Proof of prize trophy catches on the bulletin board! That odd purple paint. No scrap buyer wants anything to do with it.NEVER accept a bargain, of questionable source, no matter how tempting. Don't justify purchase of stolen property by accepting lame veil explanations of source. Thieves feel justified cheating the dishonest.Last edited by denrep; 07-25-2007 at 09:25 AM.
Reply:dont see too many of those honda welders out there , we sell honda gen where i work and have a welder here. we used it a couple times for a small road job and it seemed to weld good. i think about buying it sometimes but it has no 220v to hook up to the house when the power is out. would you buy another one or go with something bigger like a ranger or bobcat?
Reply:Funny you should ask? My right mind tells me to cut the loss, but that little machine was a tuff one. The lack of 220 volt output was no big deal for the size of unit it was. I did in fact use it for standby power to keep the refrigeration going during an outage a while back. If I were to go with a full size rig though, I kind of like the specs on the Trail Blazer 302.Last edited by MicroZone; 07-27-2007 at 10:23 PM.City of L.A.
