I recently started another old car project. It's a 53' Ford Crestliner Hardtop. It's going to be a custom, so I took it down to the frame and had it sandblasted. With all the undercoating gone I've gotten a good look at the welds that were made in 1953. Holy crap, they are some of the worst looking welds I have ever seen! I don't think there is a good weld on the whole thing! In fact it should be photographed for a welding textbook, for examples of problem/bad welds! I assume they were either stick welds or possibly gas? I will do my best to get some photo's up here because they are good comic relief. I guess this frame did sit under a perfectly functional car for 50+ years. I alway thought that the term "things just ain't built the way they used to" mean that they were better, I guess not! Either way, I have a lot of rewelding to do. Anyone else seen this before?
